Granada
Granada has been populated as far back as 5500 BC. It has been inhabited by Iberians, Romans, Visigoths, and Muslims before it was transformed into a Christian city over 500 years ago.
It is most notably known as the birthplace of Flamenco dancing, but also for the incredible tradition of tapas and home to some of the world’s best preserved examples of Moorish architecture.
THE BITTER BITCH’S GUIDE
Granada sits at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains at 2400 ft above sea level but is also only an hour away by car. While the city is very pedestrian friendly, everywhere you go, you’re walking up hill. If I could do it all over again, I would’ve trained like I was going to the Olympics. Your legs and feet are going to hurt no matter what, but a good pair of trainers will make or break you.
Everywhere I looked for information, Granada was described as a one day stop. Most people go just to see the Alhambra, which was also true of myself, but the small city was steeped in such fantastic tradition and history that I believe you really need two days to discover all it has to offer, from the final resting place of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, to see the Sacramonte caves, and plenty of time to enjoy a free tapa with your cocktail, as Granada is the only official city that this still remains a tradition. Do yourself a favor - give yourself the extra day. You won’t be sorry.

La Alhambra
The most well preserved example of architecture from the Nasrid Dynasty, the Alhambra is a large scale palace and fortress complex that dates as far back as the 8th century.
