Seville
The Andalusian capital and home to the Real Alcazar. One of only a handful of buildings still in existence boasting original Moorish design, the Alcazar is the oldest royal palace still in use today. At over 1000 years old, it is quite a sight. While you’re here, check out the Plaza de Espana and Seville Cathedral. Don’t miss out on the old royal houses or a walk through Triana just across the bridge.
THE BITTER BITCH’S GUIDE
By the time I hit Seville, the travel fatigue was real. Seville is a large city with lots to see. If you travel like I do (days packed with activities from dawn to dusk), I’d suggest taking an extra day to chill and recharge. I chose not to, and I missed some incredible sights because of that.
Hands down the best thing I saw was the Alcazar. Stunning examples of Nasrid craftsmanship. I missed out on the upstairs tour because of drama with the website. If you’re planning on going, make sure you get the tour with the royals apartments included.
The Seville Cathedral and La Giralda Tower was worth a peek. The inside of the cathedral is pretty typical and while I enjoyed seeing where Christopher Columbus was “allegedly” laid to rest, the rooftop tour was definitely worth doing. I was told by our tour operator that only in Seville, Santiago, and Milan do they have such tours because of the risk, so take advantage.
Make sure to visit the old palaces while you’re out. Pop over the bridge and check out Triana: there’s some amazing little tile shops to see. Plaza de Espana is right across from the park. I didn’t go see the bull ring or a fight, but it is located centrally if that’s your thing.
